Yarn is a beautiful thing

Yarn porn

On this, my fortieth birthday I present you with unadulterated yarn p*rn. Picked up at Santo Spirito's Organic Market (held every third Sunday of the month) for a ridiculously cheap price. I have no idea what I'm going to do with it yet. Suggestions accepted. For right now, I'm happy to just pet the yarn and know it is here.

I know I'm supposed to bemoan this point as I pass, without doubt, into middle age, but I'm really excited to be here. In the past decade I have met the most wonderful man and married him, been lucky enough have and parent my lovely child, shared my life and home with two dogs and two cats, have fabulous and rewarding friendships, found a job that I truly love and moved to a different country. Twelve years ago at this time I was still off work following a cardiac arrest that I was extremely lucky to survive. I do not take this day lightly, nor any day. I look forward to fifty, sixty and seventy as long as health and sanity serve me well. After a full, wonderful day my parting shot is this, Doug, Ila and I blowing out the candles on my birthday cake. May your birthday this year and every be filled with much joy too.

The whole family blowing out the candles

ps. Remember that picture and the olive trees that I had posted under the Arcetri post? I was asked by a complete stranger whether they could use it on their First Daffodils blog. Both flattering and wacky. Check it out. the photos is Friday, March 13th Daff of the Day:

  1. Happy Birthday! I'm pretty happy at 40 as well. Much to be thankful for. Hope you had a wonderful day!

We say Sam & Erika and much of the gang at Julia & Chris' yesterday. Julia & Chris hosted a BBQ party for Sam & Erika while they're in town through Wednesday. Sam & Erika haven't changed a bit. It's so good to see them! We're meeting them for dinner at Gentle Ben's tonight.

So, tomorrow is the beginning of the contested termination trial for Celia's case. Court is from 2-5 PM on Tuesday, 9:30 AM- 5 PM on Wednesday, & 10 AM- 12 PM on Thursday (if needed). We're told the judge will make a ruling by the end of court on Thursday! I'm nervous about being subpoenaed to testify tomorrow afternoon & about the overall outcome of this trial. But, it's long past time for a decision to be made. This precious little girl deserves a family and permanency! I just pray that we are the family she gets "stuck" with. :)

I'll let you know how it goes!

    Kathryn

  2. Hey - and who took this happy photo - it might get on to a global website and I think the photographer should be acknowledged - never mind traveling all those hundreds of miles to do the photo!

  3. Awww, you made me all teary.
I am so, so, so glad you are 40. I've known you since we were 20somethings concerned mainly with "boys" and finding the ideal sundress at Buffalo Exchange...to think that we (and I suppose I am really talking about YOU here) have survived so much and have such bounty....
Here's wishing you many more decades replete with health, peace, happiness, love, and, what the hell, a perfect dress or two.

  4. Ahhhh, lets see -
    1. Photo credits to my mum who came out for a long weekend. It was lovely to see you Mum. Thanks for babysitting!
    2. Kathryn, SO jealous of the Erika and Sam time. I've got everything crossed for you today and Thursday. Thousands of good vibes sending there way to you and yours. Hoping that the judge makes the right decision.
    3. Jules, my sweet. Thanks. Lets plan that dress hunting, make up, discussing boys, drinking cocktails, and eating a scrumptious meal for when I come back. I'm looking forward to it!

  5. OK, I'm way slow here, but I've been off the blog trail for a few weeks. Your post makes me believe in birthdays again. I'm not one for days on the calendar (nearly missed that yesterday (3/31) was the first anniversary of my father's passing and outside of Tim and Miles he is my most precious family member, and I was "his girl"), but you might make me a believer out of those special milestones yet.

So glad the birthday was fabulous! What a wonderful birthday post.

    All the best, Kerry
